Material characteristics

The carbon content of medium carbon steel is generally between 0.25% and 0.60%, which can give consideration to both hardness and toughness when it is used to make cutting knives. Compared with high carbon steel, medium carbon steel has slightly lower hardness but better toughness and is not easy to break. Compared with low carbon steel, it can keep a good sharpness of the blade, and after proper heat treatment, the strength and elasticity of the blade can meet the requirements of iaido practice.

Forging: medium carbon steel is heated to high temperature, and impurities are removed by repeated beating and folding, so that the internal structure of steel is more compact, the texture is more uniform and the performance is improved.

Quenching and tempering: after heating to a specific temperature, it is quickly cooled and quenched to make the blade hard, and then tempered to eliminate stress, prevent cracking and deformation, and increase toughness.

Grinding: Fine grinding with different mesh grindstones, from rough grinding to fine grinding, makes the blade smooth and sharp, and also shows the steel texture.

Blade body: The blade length is generally about 60-70cm, with elegant arc shape and sharp tip, which gradually narrows radially from the blade cluster to the tip, and gradually becomes thinner axially.
