Basic Katana Care Instructions:
A sword generally consists of three main parts: the blade, the scabbard, and accessories. The core component, the blade, is primarily made of iron, steel, and copper, while the scabbard is crafted from wood. To prevent rust, do not store the sword in humid environments or expose it to acidic or salty substances. Direct hand contact with the blade should also be avoided, as sweat can corrode its surface. Blades made of medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, or pattern-welded steel (Damascus steel) must be regularly coated with anti-rust oil.
